In addition to the courses and tests listed above, Apprentices are required to complete  21 External link opens in new tab or windowOJT modules and receive a minimum of 576 classroom/hands-on training at a Boilermaker training facility.
All Performance Based Tests must be proctored by a qualified instructor at a Boilermaker Training Facility.


SAJAC issues progress reports to all apprentices twice per year.
Failure to report work hours (or "out of work") or complete your lessons will result in suspension or possible termination from the program.

Apprentices must complete monthly work reports (whether working or not).

  • Apprentices must report all work-related hours and activities by logging into the SAJAC Student Website at External link opens in new tab or windowhttps://student.sajac-boilermakers.org/Login.aspx, whether working or not.
  • Apprentices must enter their reports on time and no more than thirty (30) days following the last day of the month.
  • The apprentice's required information shall be completed, including the name of their employer, job activities, and the number of hours spent on each work activity.
  • Apprentices out of work during a calendar month shall submit a report for zero (0) hours stating they were out of work.
  • Apprentices, not supervisors or anyone else, are responsible for completing their reports.
  • Filing an incomplete Report, failure to file a report within thirty (30) days of the end of the month, or providing false information shall result in disciplinary action.
  • The SAJAC office will verify Apprentices' work hours through the Boilermaker National Funds Office.



Special Advancement for Certified Welders

SAJAC Policy 07/02/2015: Special Advancement for Common Arc Certified Welders.

  • Apprentices with SMAW welding certifications are to be advanced to the period of 80%

  • Apprentices with FCAW or GMAW welding certifications are to be advanced to the period of 85%

  • Apprentices with 6g tube GTAW and SMAW welding certifications are to be advanced to the period of 90%.
